Very little of the thousands of hours of Mission Control audio on Apollo in Real Time has been heard or documented. As you find moments of interest, post them here for discussion.

Apollo 17 Moments of Interest / More time corrections?
« Last post by onebigmonkey on September 02, 2025, 01:12:54 pm »
I spotted someone posting the view of Eaeth through the sextant telescope and noted the time stamp of 106:53:22.

My own studies of Earth images in Apollo 17 put that view at 084:47:19, where Evans references looking at Earth through the sextant adaptor.

The weather patterns in the image are a match for the Hasselblad photo AS17-148-22763.  Using weather satellite data (and following the sequence of Earth images as they go along) I've put that photo at 081:40:02, rather than the position you have it at, around 61 hours!

The crew describe the Iberian peninsula at 82 hours, something they wouldn't have been able to see at 61!

See here for my version of the sequence of events, which I'm always happy to correct if I'm wrong!

Apollo General Discussion / Re: Apollo 12 launch EECOM loop?

Has the status of this NSF grant been changed either due to the passage of time or to recent general NSF grant issues?

Excellent find. There must have been conversations just like this for nearly every system, with John Aaron demanding power cuts to systems the specialists said could not be cut. By the way, the transcript has Flight Director Gene Kranz saying "Tell him if any other reconfiguration" at 139:14:41; that should be "TELMU, and other reconfiguration?" Gene always intercalates a shwa after the L in TELMU for some reason. Similarly, "Telling you?" at 139:15:40 should be "TELMU".

This is also a great clip for having both John Aaron and Sy Liebergot on there.

Apollo 16 is being digitized! This means that our project team could get access to the data this summer and begin creation of an Apollo 16 in Real Time.
Excellent news! Really looking forward to it. Do you have any idea of the status of the other missions?

Well that is great news! Thanks.
What is a realistic guess on when we might get to see Apollo 16 in Real Time?

It's a hangup with the process, not the material. Every transfer is still pending.

What is the status for Apollo 16 as of May 2025?

Apollo 13 Moments of Interest / 125:59:03 Bales and Garman at crunch time
« Last post by MadDogBV on February 26, 2025, 08:25:31 am »
Steve Bales, GUIDO; and Jack Garman, AGC Support - Probably one of the most infamous duos in the legacy of the MOCR.

They have worked with each other several times throughout the mission. Now it's crunch time, with less than 24 hours to go before entry interface, and Steve is busier than hell. At first, it seems he's about to brush Jack off from talking about a logistical problem related to uplinked command loads, on account of being too busy to talk. But Jack knows full well that Steve can't resist a brainteaser.

Holding out hope for apollo 8 and 12 MOCR audio, at some point.
Whilst we can't know what's going on behind the scenes, hopefully the project is still underway and going okay.
Who knows, maybe it will all be released at once?
Fingers crossed.

The DYNAMICS team Ray Reynolds and Bob Torres had a rough mission.

The Apollo 13 Mission Operations Report notes the following incident in the Problems & Resolutions section of FIDO's report:

Quote
The SIVB LOX dump and evasive maneuvers were input to the RTCC at (approximately) 3:46:00. At this time, the Selects requested that the 2:59:00 zero ΔV maneuver (used for CSM separation attitude definition) be moved back to TLI cutoff. Dynamics was so instructed, however, TLI was moved instead. This resulted in the ephemeris re-anchoring on the pre-TLI CYI vector. This situation was ultimately corrected by deleting TLI and re-anchoring on CCHU08. (The consequence of this was to "turn on" the RTCC pre-TLI vent model. With this vent on, and unknown, later impact point evaluations with MSFC would not compare. It was not until 24 hrs later that the "vent on" situation was noted as having invalidated impact point comparisons attempted prior to a GET of approximately 6 hrs.)

The re-anchoring of the ephemeris on the pre-TLI vector also had the side effect of impacting multiple displays used by the MOCR personnel, including the CLAD - the command module looking angle display - which was used by the INCO to configure the high-gain antenna and also identify which spacecraft omni provided the best comm. At ~3:56 after the dynamics error, the CLAD was now showing the spacecraft Apollo 13 hurtling back towards the earth, because all the ephemeris knew was that 13 was still in orbit.

COMM Ed Fendell has a field day with this, delighting in embarrassing the FIDO over it. In the FIDO loop, Dave Reed is noticeably annoyed at DYNAMICS. "Mark yourself down for one," he orders them. Whether this is part of a disciplinary action or to buy Dave a beer later is unclear.
